“My Name is Amber Kim and I am an incarcerated trans woman in Washington State. I am a writer, witch, and activist. I do what anti-racist, anti-sexist, and anti-oppression, work I can here on the inside whenever and however I can. I got into this work out of self-preservation and I have found it to be one of the few things which give me a sense of agency and wellbeing within the distillation of empire of the PIC. I would be very thankful for whatever monetary support you may wish to gift me with. Some will go towards supporting my work. Books, typewriter ribbons, paper, postage, and workshop materials. Some will go towards supporting the people who support me. For example, I have one comrade in desperate need of new glasses and another outside prison who struggles to make the rent. My drawings in this piece (particularly in the mountain section) were inspired by photos taken by fat activist/artist @shooglet 🌿 I’m very thankful to them and other artists who capture, uplift, and support fat and disabled bodies when so much of our visual media tries to erase, distort, and violate this imagery. While I was looking for visual inspiration for this piece, I was looking for acupuncture anatomical charts and illustrations, and I couldn’t find ANY that used fat bodies as models. Shoog and photographers from the No Lose conference enabled me to find a visual language to accompany Geleni’s thoughts on being a healer with chronic pain, the radial use of acupuncture, fat queer community, among many other things.🌿
A group of of artists are organizing a fundraiser for Queer and Trans members of the Migrant Caravan at the US/Mexico border. With a donation of $80 or more, you’ll receive a basket of 8 original works! Our organizer friend who is on the ground in Tijuana has stated that these funds are urgently needed for clothing, health and hygiene products, documentation, and other basic necessities, so the faster we can get donations the better ⭐️ we also know that many people don’t have access to extra funds to donate and many are already supporting the hundreds of fundraisers floating around the internet (I heard recently that gofundme is the second or third largest healthcare provider in the US…) so if you have that “art friend” that has extra $$$ to spend send this to them! ⭐️ Also we only have capacity to send out 50 art baskets so order quick! ⭐️ Please share ⭐️
